Working within the UCL Proton Beam Therapy (PBT) group on the development of a new prototype range calorimeter for PBT quality assurance (QA). The new detector aims to reduce both the cost and duration of current QA procedures, as well as the expertise required to perform them. This Master's project focuses largely on the development of a Graphical User Interface to reduce the intricacy of QA, and data analysis of the results from the readout system.
An optical CT scanner was designed and constructed to provide a proof-of-concept for low-cost equipment suitable for teaching medical physics principles in the classroom. Intricate components were designed with CAD drawings and subsequently 3D printed. A Raspberry Pi and python script were used to control a stepper motor for the scanner rotation, as well as the camera imaging rate. Phantoms, in the form of 3D printed models and gummy bears, were successfully imaged and reconstructed.

During the second year of my undergraduate degree, I Co-founded an organisation that teaches coding to school students. Since forming, we have taught nearly 100 students, employed 8 undergraduates as teaching assistants, and been awarded £8,000 in funding. We are currently writing a paper on our work for submission to the Institute of Physics Education Journal.
I have been working in a team of scientists and designers on the development of a prototype exhibit for the new Science Gateway facility at CERN, Geneva. Our exhibit, detailing the mass of the proton and the energy-mass relationship, won the Audience Choice Award at CERN's SciCommHack 2020 event, and is now being taken forward for further development. The Science Gateway is scheduled to open in 2022.
The UCL High Energy Physics Group website is long overdue some major stylistic changes. Having interned as a Software Engineer with a proficiency in front-end coding, I was assigned the task of the website re-development. I recruited a fellow undergradute to work on this project with me, and we aim to have the new site up and running by early 2021.
I completed a Software Engineer (agile principles) summer internship at Sky under the newly formed Sky Labs department. I worked in a team of graduates developing a full-stack web application that links all Sky employees to their involvement in the Sky Labs innovation sessions. The main languages used throughout the internship were JavaScript (ReactJS), Java and the Cypher query language for the graph database system Neo4j.
Since early 2018, I have worked at the University College London Observatory (UCLO) as a tour demonstrator. I operate the mechanical and robotic telescopes for demonstration purposes to the general public, private tours and school groups. I have also delivered introductory and closing talks alongside my colleagues, covering the history and physics of the research at UCLO.
I tutor GCSE and A-Level students in Mathematics, Physics and Further Mathematics, to help finance my time as a student (and because I love teaching, of course!). I was the recent spotlight tutor for the company, and I also featured as a guest speaker in their series "Which Uni is for Me?".
